Remind me not to drink coffee at night | My Lane

Yesterday my housemates and I went to Trinoma to look for clothes and shoes or just do some window shopping ? ultimate girl bonding. But then when we were in the mall, I did nothing but eat and eat. I had chicken, rice, spaghetti and tropicoolers at Greenwhich, then ice cream at Thumbs Up, and then seafood at some Chinese fastfood. I felt like I can?t breath because I was sooo full. I couldn?t finish my dinner. And then I felt guilty and paranoid that I am getting so fat. (Oh, I am really getting fat!) So anyway, when I went home, I decided to drink coffee because my housemates told me that it would help in digesting all the food that I put in my stomach. And so while watching ?Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi?, I drank coffee. At 30 minutes past midnight, I decided to go to my room so I can sleep. But hours passed by and I still couldn?t sleep! I prayed, read a book..but still no sleep came. Arggh!!! I was worried that I won?t be able to wake up in time for The Feast because I will be serving as an usher there. It was so hard for me to fall asleep?argghh! Insomnia strikes again! I decided to watch the movie that?s been lying in my hard disk for a while. Watching it made me remember that once upon a time, I was a girl sooo in love who would do crazy and illogical things just to make a boy feel special. That girl who thought that she was with the guy she was going to be with for the rest of her life but got her heart broken a number of times. Hmm? seems like such a long time ago. It seems so odd?when you try to remember how those times felt and you realize how that experience brought you to where you are now. It?s nice to be in love.. To love and feel loved? but right now, I am happy and content in having a heart that is at peace. Awww?what?s with all this lovey dovey stuff? I just want to sleep!!! Next time, remind me not to have coffee at night please?

Rescuers press on after deadly China quake

By NBC News staff and wire services

BEIJING-- Rescuers in southwestern China tried on Saturday to reach remote communities rocked by earthquakes that killed at least 80 people and damaged thousands of buildings, state media reported.

More than 200,000 villagers were evacuated after Friday's quakes toppled thousands of homes and sent boulders cascading across roads in a region of small farms and mines near the border between Guizhou and Yunnan provinces, where some of China's poorest people live.

Rescue workers cleared roads to reach survivors and rush aid to the remote areas. The death toll could rise as news trickles in from cut-off areas, the Xinhua news agency said.

The quakes cut off electricity and triggered landslides that blocked roads, hampering rescue efforts. Adding to rescuers' difficulties was rain which forecasters said was expected for the next three days.

"I was extremely scared when it started to shake. After it shook the first, second and third times, it was moving and I was extremely scared," Zhou Weiping, 56, a resident of the township of Guohui in Yiliang County, told Reuters.? "We panicked and quickly ran out."

The first magnitude-5.6 quake struck just before 11:30 a.m. Friday and was followed by an equally strong quake shortly after noon, joined by dozens of aftershocks. Though of moderate strength, the quakes were shallow, which often causes more damage than deeper ones.

State television showed crumbled walls and roads strewn with rubble and rocks. The broadcaster put the death toll at 89 earlier in the day, but later revised it to "at least 80", in line with the official Xinhua news agency's tally.

More than 800 people were injured, Xinhua said. Up to 740,000 people were affected in Yunnan's six worst-hit counties, officials said.

?Save lives?
In neighboring Guizhou province, more than 11,700 houses were damaged and the lives of nearly 28,000 people were disrupted, the state news agency and officials said.

Buildings in China's less developed regions are often built with little regard for construction standards, making them susceptible to earthquakes.

Premier Wen Jiabao held an emergency meeting on his plane as he flew to the disaster zone late on Friday. He reached Yiliang, in Yunnan province, near the epicenter, just after midnight and spent the night visiting quake survivors in villages and hospitals, Xinhua said.

State broadcaster CCTV showed Wen talking to victims in a tent settlement set up for the displaced. He called for "rapid, all-out efforts to search for survivors and save lives," according to Xinhua

"We have to keep safety as a top concern and guard against epidemics," Wen was quoted as saying.

Rescuers in Yunnan said they had reached most of the worst-hit areas and the province's civil affairs department was quoted as putting direct economic losses at 3.7 billion yuan ($583 million).

In 2008, some 87,600 people were killed in the southwestern province of Sichuan when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit.

Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Jets hammer Bills

By DENNIS WASZAK Jr.

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 5:34 p.m. ET Sept. 9, 2012

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - One touchdown after another, the New York Jets eased all those preseason concerns about their low-scoring offense.

With a whole lot of Mark Sanchez, a sprinkling of Tim Tebow and a dominant first-half effort by the defense, New York manhandled the Buffalo Bills, routing their AFC East rivals 48-28 in the season opener Sunday.

Rex Ryan passed on a chance to say, "We told you so" to all of his team's critics and doubters. So did Sanchez, and Tebow, too.

"Vindication, chip on our shoulder, maybe that's not the right things," Ryan said. "We were just excited to play."

And, they looked it.

Sanchez threw three touchdown passes, including two to rookie Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley had a touchdown catch and a punt return for a score, and Antonio Cromartie took one of New York's three interceptions of Ryan Fitzpatrick to the end zone.

"It's a great win, there's no doubt about it," Sanchez said. "But, we've got lots of work to do."

That's from a team - labeled by some a "circus" for its penchant for making offseason headlines, namely acquiring Tebow - that had many wondering what to expect after the first-team offense failed to score a touchdown in the first three games of the preseason.

"It looked like we were making up for lost time there," Sanchez said.

Added Kerley: "We knew what we could do. We just showed the world today."

There were plenty of touchdowns in this one for the Jets, who set the franchise mark for most points in a season opener on Shonn Greene's late 1-yard scoring run.

"He definitely turned it on today," Kerley said of Sanchez. "I think there's always a big target on Mark's back and I think he likes it. He's a guy we trust and know what he's capable each week, and he showed it today."

Sanchez had the offense humming along so well, the fans at MetLife Stadium actually booed Tebow when he failed to gain a yard when he took a direct snap in the second quarter. The video board quickly flashed a sign: "Quiet! Offense At Work!"

Not everything went right, though, as the Jets allowed 195 yards rushing, including a career-high 169 by C.J. Spiller, and All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis left in the fourth quarter with a head injury. It doesn't appear Revis has a concussion, though.

Perhaps the only other thing that went wrong came early in the fourth quarter when Ryan took a tumble when Scott Chandler knocked into him on the sideline after a catch. Ryan went down to a knee and then laughed as he got up.

The game marked the highly anticipated debuts of Tebow, who worked in the wildcat a little bit and also recovered a late onside kick by Buffalo, and Bills defensive end Mario Williams - who was a non-factor against a Jets offensive line that protected Sanchez throughout and gave him plenty of time to throw. Williams finished with just one tackle.

"As quick as the points got on the board, yeah, definitely," Williams said when asked if he was surprised by what New York did. "I didn't think you would see that lopsided a turnover battle. They got them and we didn't get turnovers on the defense."

Sanchez finished 19 of 27 for 266 yards and the three scores and an interception, and was not sacked.

"They kept me upright," Sanchez said of his offensive line, "and that helps."

Tebow wasn't used that much by the Jets, but added a tricky element to the offense and finished with five rushes for 11 yards and didn't throw a pass.

"After a little bit, we didn't show too much," Tebow said of the wildcat plays. "We were able to get in there and have some efficient plays."

Greene had 27 carries for 94 yards and the TD, and Hill had five catches for 89 yards.

Fitzpatrick was 18 of 32 for 195 yards and three touchdowns - to Chandler, Stevie Johnson, Donald Jones - and the three interceptions.

"We're not going to go around like the sky is falling," Bills coach Chan Gailey said. "I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to let them do that."

The Jets opened the game to loud cheers as both Sanchez and Tebow took the field, with the backup quarterback lined up as a slot receiver. Three plays later, Tebow took the snap with Sanchez lined up at wide receiver and handed to Joe McKnight for a 3-yard run.

With the offense moving along, Sanchez took off running and tried to shovel a pass to Jeff Cumberland, who had the ball tip off his hands and right to Bills linebacker Bryan Scott. But the Jets got the ball right back a few minutes later when Revis stepped in front of Fitzpatrick's pass intended for Johnson.

New York used its wildcat package a few times to get into the end zone on its next drive as Sanchez hit Kerley on a 12-yard pass for a touchdown.

The Jets' defense stepped up again a few minutes later, this time with Kyle Wilson picking off Fitzpatrick's pass intended for David Nelson, who later left with a knee injury.

Five plays later - right after Tebow gained 3 yards on a direct snap - Sanchez connected with Hill for a 33-yard score on the opening snap of the second quarter to put the Jets up 14-0.

The Bills couldn't get much going on their next possession and weren't helped by the crew of replacement officials. On fourth-and-1 from its 29, Buffalo was called for a delay of game penalty after the officials took a while spotting the ball. Several Bills players yelled at officials, to no avail, and it became fourth-and-6 from the 24.

Brian Moorman punted it 43 yards, and Kerley - zigzagging through tackle attempts - returned it 68 yards for a touchdown, putting New York up 21-0.

There was more bad news for the Bills on their next possession as Fred Jackson injured his right leg after a 7-yard run when he was tackled hard by LaRon Landry. Jackson stayed down for a few moments while he was checked by trainers before walking on his own to the sideline.

He walked around for a while before finally heading to the locker room, a towel draped over his head, with two trainers accompanying him.

"Fred doesn't look as bad as David," Gailey said. "We don't know how bad David is, but it doesn't look good right now. We'll get a further evaluation (Monday)."

Notes: Kerley's punt return was the Jets' first for a score since Santana Moss in 2004 playoffs at Pittsburgh, ending the NFL's longest drought. ... Jets CB Antonio Cromartie banged up his left shoulder and had it wrapped after the game, but said he'll be fine. LB Bryan Thomas and WR Patrick Turner also left with hamstring injuries. ... The Bills' worst opening-game loss came in 1960, a 27-3 defeat against the New York Titans - the Jets' earlier incarnation.

Realty Times - Picture This House: Why Photos Sell Your Home

As we head into fall, the change in seasons brings about a feeling of concern for some sellers. They fear that their home won't be looked at as much or, worse, won't sell.

Yes, it's true that many buyers, especially those with children, like to be settled into their new home before the school year starts. However, that doesn't mean it's too late for your home to sell.

Stepping up the marketing and generating the right kind of buzz can keep the visits to your home high and create interest in some high traffic places such as social media outlets that can help lure potential buyers in.

We all know the adage, "A picture is worth a thousand words". Well, when it comes to real estate, homes with high-quality pictures are about 60 percent more viewed than those advertised without photos. I'd say that poor photos would also lessen the chance that your home is viewed and/or visited.

This simply makes sense when you think about where most people start to shop for a home--online. Simply having text copy that describes the home, no matter how well written it is, doesn't do what photos and video can do.

Having your home professionally photographed is worth the time and money. If the photographer knows his/her trade well, the photos will "WOW" viewers. Even better, if a video accompanies the photos, you can place both on social media sites. Through the video, you can tell a powerful story. The agent or the homeowner can share compelling information about what makes this home unique.

In a video, you don't want to be emotional, rather, you want to share why this home fits the audience you are targeting. That means you need to know your audience. The same goes for the photo.

At the heart of your marketing should be images that tell a story in photos that convey why this home is a "must-have". Of course, searching for a home is still ultimately based on these parameters (which are usually entered-into a search engine): price, location, square footage, number of bathrooms and bedrooms, pool, etc. Once those parameters have been met and a filtered list of homes is shown, then it comes down to the photos and videos. Potential buyers don't want to waste their time physically driving to homes that aren't what they are looking for. So the better quality the photos, the better results in sales.

What makes quality photos? Good lighting, interesting angles, non-cluttered rooms, color, depth (size of room space), and overall exceptional quality of the image and video. That means the ISO, can't be too high or you'll experience a lot of "noise" (dark areas) in the photo. Raising the electronic gain too much on the video camera can make the video quality poor.

Unless, you're an excellent or pro photographer/videographer, don't attempt to photograph your home yourself. These photos are vital to the sale of your home. They're the marketing materials that will enhance the copy that's written about your home. And, again, the video and photos are often the enticement to actually get potential buyers in the door to make an offer.

Prepare for the professional photographers and videographers. Before your photo experts arrive, be sure to make a list of suggested angles and areas to shoot. Think about where you have your morning coffee. Is it outside on the deck overlooking an amazing sunrise? If so, even though that isn't specifically a photo of the home, it's a photo that tells a story about the home?be sure to have the sunrise photographed. The message in the photo and video will tell a story about the kind of experience buyers will have in this home when they buy it. And, that is definitely worth a thousand words.

European carrier sources: Nokia to start selling the Lumia 920 in November (update: Coming to AT&T on November 2nd)

While we heard practically everything else about Nokia's new Windows Phone 8 flagship, there were still two very important details still missing -- its price and release date. Now, according to Reuters' "telecom operator" sources, a spokesperson from an unnamed eastern European carrier said that sales of the PureView-packing Lumia 920 will start in the second half of November, with larger countries landing the device earlier in the same month. Another source from a Nordic operator then followed suit, stating that they expected the phone to arrive in stores around mid to late November. We've reached out to our contacts, and will update if we hear anything more -- especially if it involves a price tag.

Update: It's being reported that the Lumia 920 will arrive in the US on AT&T's network November 2nd.
